Great Summer

A week remaining in the 2012 Boys & Girls Club of Garfield Summer Camps!!  Wow, it is amazing how fast the time goes.  It is such a pleasure to work with such an amazing group of men and women who have such dedication to the children of our Club community.  It is the kids, volunteers and staff of our amazing Club that make the daily work so much fun.  Watching the smiles, the laughs, the joy of the kids while spending quality time with our staff makes my day everyday.  As I walk around the building I am motivated by the energy and enthusiasm that our staff has for the work that they do and I cannot say enough about the job they do.

Over the last few weeks we have seen some great things happen.  40 of our members attended a great day of baseball camp with CC Sabathia, another large group attended football camp with Justin Tuck, and today we found out that 40 of our members have been chosen to join Olympian, Carmelo Anthony for two days of Basketball Camp at St. John's University.  We also were fortunate to send 32 members to Top of the Pines Sleep away teambuilding and leadership camp with Vacamas Programs for Youth for two weeks.  How great is this to be able to give our kids these kinds of opportunities.

Speaking of opportunity, a special thanks to the Austin Family Foundation and their support of the Boys & Girls Club of Garfield and the Keystone Club.  We are so excited that they continue to work with us.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.  It is people like the Austin Family, Justin Tuck, CC Sabathia, and Carmelo Anthony and ProCamps that continue to ensure that the children at the Boys & Girls Club of Garfield receive great opportunities.

As we wind down the summer I continue to be amazed at how fortunate we are to have an amazing group of staff members.  Many of whom grew up at the Club themselves and whom will be going off to, or back to their respective colleges and universities in the fall.  So proud of all of them.  Over the last few weeks at both Garfield Middle School and at the Club at 490 Midland Avenue staff have been working with the kids to build their talent in fine and performing arts.  It is so great to watch this and see the creativity flow from the children in our programs.  Please see invite to the GMS Talent Showcase below.  I hope you will attend but, please RSVP.

Coming to these festivities is the best and most exciting way of truly understanding and appreciating exactly what we do each day.  Come spend a few moments with our kids, volunteers and staff and you too will walk away inspired on a daily basis.  Join me in celebrating the fact that Great Futures Start Here.

I am happy you have taken the time to read this post and hear about what we do.  I encourage you to share this with your friends and make a comment below.  Thank you and have a great day!!!
